NCDC concludes with an awards ceremony to honor and celebrate the districts, administrators, and teachers who are taking risks, cultivating agency, and empowering learners at scale.

Honoring Those Who Are Forging the
Leading Edge of the Future of Learning

Categories & Criteria

  • This award goes to teachers who have best implemented personalized learning strategies and created a learner-centered culture.

    Finalists and a winner will be honored in the following grade bands:

    • Primary (PreK-2)

    • Intermediate (3-5)

    • Middle (6-8)

    • High School (9-12)


    Finalist Selection Criteria:

    • Transition to a student-centered classroom is evident with the culture of the classroom (shared vision, classroom code, sops, goal setting etc.)

    • Students own their learning (roadmaps, proficiency scales, learning plans/choice boards, data notebooks etc.)

    • Students have multiple pathways to learn (learning plans/choice boards)

    • The teacher uses data to organize small group instruction based on student needs

  • This award goes to the instructional coach who best embodies innovation, fosters a culture of growth among staff, and supports teachers in bringing the instructional model to life.

    Finalist Selection Criteria:

    • Exercises and models a growth mindset

    • Takes risks in the pursuit of personalization

    • Seamlessly adapts or adjusts to challenges

    • Supports and empowers teachers to innovate

    • Facilitates sharing of emerging strategies among colleagues

  • This award goes to the principal who best demonstrates effective leadership to bring the district Instructional Model to life in classrooms school wide.

    Finalist Selection Criteria:

    • Strives to make the instructional model come alive in classrooms

    • Leads second-order change at the school level

    • Facilitates innovation and collaboration at the school level

    • Coaches teachers towards having a student-centered classroom where there are multiple pathways for learning

    • Collaborates with other school-based leaders to share best practices

  • This award goes to the district leader who has demonstrated effective leadership through second-order change using the Digital Convergence Framework.

    Finalist Selection Criteria:

    • Strives to make the instructional model come alive in classrooms

    • Leads second-order change at the district level

    • Facilitates innovation and collaboration at the district level

    • Ensures Digital Convergence is an integral part of the day to day work in his or her district

    • Collaborates with other district leaders to share best practices

  • This award goes to the district who has developed a curriculum that reflects student competencies to enhance personalized learning, 21st century rigor, and authentic learning experiences.

    Finalist Selection Criteria:

    • Inventory of content is analyzed and gaps are filled

    • Continuum of learning is created

    • Progressions of learning/proficiency scales/target browser are built

    • Learning plans provide personalized pathways

    • Unit plans bring together learning plans

    • Teachers and students can access digitally

    • Students demonstrate mastery

  • This award goes to the district who has designed, developed, & deployed a digital ecosystem that reflects the integration of hardware, software, & content to enhance personalized learning.

    Finalist Selection Criteria:

    • Purpose, users, systems, subsystems, functions are identified with a clear understanding of how it is aligned and supports the instructional model

    • An LMS is an integral part of the digital ecosystem to deliver learning plans to students (canvas, schoology, empower, google etc.)

    • There is a name/brand to the digital ecosystem

    • Inventories have been conducted and analyzed for digital tools; single sign on (sso) has been implemented

    • Students access learning plans through the digital ecosystem

    • The districts modern curriculum is housed within the digital ecosystem (continuum of learning, proficiency scales/learning plans, units)

 

Nomination & Selection Process

If nominated, you will receive more in-depth information on what to expect and what is expected from you on November 7th.

Nomination

Nominations are submitted by November 7th either by self-nomination or by a colleague. Nominees will be notified via email on Nov 9th and be provided with the digital Acceptance Form and Application.

Acceptance & Evidence

Nominees will complete & submit the Acceptance Form and Application by a) obtaining a signature of approval from their supervisor, and b) providing evidence to support their nomination.

Finalists & Winners

Finalists in each category will create & submit a two-minute video that highlights their work by Jan 6th. The National Council will then vote to select winners for each award category.
